봄의 비밀은, 알 수 없어

미아(迷兒)의 손에 엉긴 채 이름 없이 떠다니는

풍선같이 알 수 없어

봄의 비밀은, 알 수 없어

흔들의자에 묻혀 아지랑이 속을 살피는

'늙어 이 빠진 창녀'의 냉소와 곁말의 너머에도

알 수 없어

슬픈 밀물처럼 달려드는 생활의 예조(豫兆)에 허우적대면서도

알 수 없어

감감히 알 수 없어

봄의 비밀은, 알 수 없어

상냥한 볕의 한 알 한 알 속에 태고처럼 앉아 있는

폐허를 깨단하고서도 알 수 없어

봄의 비밀은 알 수 없어, 흥

내남없는 정념 속에 꼬리치는 춘몽(春夢)의 사연을 읽고서도

영영 알 수 없어

At the end of my suffering
there was a door.

Hear me out : that which you call death
I remember.

Over head, noises, branches of the pine shifting,
Then nothing. The weak sun
flickered over the dry surface.

It is terrible to survive
as consciousness
buried in the dark earth.

Then it was over : that which you fear, being
a soul and unable
to speak, ending abruptly, the stiff earth
bending a little. And what I took to be
birds darting in low shrubs.

You who do not remember
Passage from the other world
I tell you I could speak again : whatever
returns from oblivion returns
to find a voice :

From the center of my life came
a great fountain, deep blue
shadows on azure seawater.
